A letter from Ira Dyck (Ministry Council Chair) and
the rest of Ministry Council to the Congregation.
Hello, Emmanuel Church,
First of all, we want to say a big “Thank You!” for your grace, patience, and understanding over the last little while. With the many changes that have developed within our church family, we recognize that some of you may have questions, concerns or speculations. Please be assured that Ministry Council in all earnestness cares for you, your voice, and your place in this body.
With reverent regard to the call to stewardship, Ministry Council has formed a Search Committee for our Senior Pastor position. This committee is comprised of congregational members; Rachel Dickey, Kevin Martens, and Barb Johnson, along with elders; Lou Reimer, Bryan Bartel and Chris Schroeder (Search Committee Chair), and our Senior Executive Pastor Brynden Devenny.
Initially, we decided to utilize the Vanderbloemen Search Group but recently decided to place their involvement on hold. This was done in order to give us more time to evaluate the profile of the Senior Pastor position and how it can best serve our church going forward. Many of you have shared with us your appreciation and value of a biblical preaching standard. We whole-heartedly agree. We are grateful for a body of believers who so highly esteem sound doctrine. Ministry Council is honoured to serve a church that values biblical truth and teaching. For this reason, we are choosing to take considerable time in hiring the right person who shares our values and vision at Emmanuel.
We also have started advertising for the Worship Pastor position, and we are currently accepting applications. The interview process will take some time as we carefully consider candidates to fill the unique role of caring for both our traditional and contemporary ways of worship.
We know that with the transition in Emmanuel, change can be unsettling. Ministry Council wants to assure you that every decision we make is done with much prayer and discussion. We have talked to many of you and would love to continue discussions over coffee, or tea, or a Pepsi and Revel whenever you have time.
Furthermore, we will be having a Prayer and Discussion evening on September 22, 2019 at 6 pm in The Hub. Ministry Council warmly invites you to join us and pray for, and discuss, the future of Emmanuel.
Many churches in the first century went through change and transition with much uncertainty and worry. Thankfully, we are not in the dire situations these believers were in. However, uncertainty and worry are what some of us in Emmanuel are feeling, and that’s okay. Paul’s encouragement to the concerned Philippian believers could be the same for us at Emmanuel:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God,
which transcends all understanding, will guard your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Please join us as we pray for Emmanuel’s future “teachers and pastors” by seeking God’s wisdom for these new positions, and feel free to come to our Prayer and Discussion evening on September 22nd.
